DCBA 2006 China Forum: China Auto Industry and Its Global Impact
The Detroit Chinese Business Association (DCBA) hosted a highly successful conference, DCBA 2006 China Forum, on April 5th, 2006 at Marriott Hotel in Troy. Over two hundred automotive executives, professionals and government officers from both US and China attended the conference. Dr. Ted Ying, the Executive Vice President of DCBA hosted the event and Dr. Charlie Zhao, the President of DCBA, delivered welcome speech. Two distinguished guests, Mr. Robert Ficano, Wayne county executive and Mr.
Jianong Wu, Vice Mayor of Chongqing were present to honor this event.
Mr. Fu Yuwu -Executive Vice President and Secretary General of SAE China updated the recent development of China auto industry. Mr. Chen Yinda -Vice President of Shanghai Automotive Industry Group (SAIC) delivered speech to introduce the SAIC and its global strategy. Dr. Mustafa Mohatarem --Chief Economist of General Motors made comprehensive analyses on the global auto industry and current, future business environment of China auto industry and predicted continuous rapid growth based on the favorable factors such as high domestic savings & increasing foreign direct investment, positive government policies, etc. Mr. Clarence Kwan, National Managing Partner, Chinese Services Group, Deloitte & Touche LLP made presentation on the M&A between US & China and indicated future impact of China investment into USA. Mr. Richard G. Goetz from Dykema Gossett LLC law firm also made presentation about the US-China business, auto industry in particular from law standpoint.
As the second part of the 2006 China Forum, the US-China Auto Supplier Networking was held in the afternoon of April 5 from 1:00PM to 5:00PM. Dr. Li Li, the vice president of DCBA, hosted this session. The event attracted more than 160 US attendees including buyers, sales representatives and company executives mostly from local auto suppliers. Eight auto suppliers from China (mainly from Chongqing) presented their products, technologies and production capabilities. Attendees from US companies showed great interest in those products and technologies. Many of them actively approached the Chinese suppliers for in-depth discussion through the networking session.
In the evening of the same day, DCBA hosted the seminar "Growing a Business by Acquisition and Joint Venture". This seminar, presented by Foley & Lardner LLP, was the last one in a series. More than 50 professionals and company executives from China and Detroit attended the two-hour seminar. Three panelists, Mr. Steve Hilfinger, the managing partner of Foley in the Detroit office, Mr. Dalijit Doogal, another Foley partner, and Ms. Linda Ji, an associate from Foley & Lardner's Boston office, discussed acquisition and merge from different aspects. The topics covered included acquisition vs JV comparison, US government regulations, M&A strategy, execution and documentation. They also answered a wide range of questions regarding M&A at the end of the seminar.
2006年中国论坛:中国汽车工业的发展及其对全球的影响
2006 年4月15 日，底特律中华商会在Troy 市又一次成功举行了高层汽车会议-中国论坛。此次论坛吸引了两百多位中美汽车界及政府的高层来宾。常务副会长应盛儿博士主持会议，会长赵成和博士致词欢迎词。韦恩郡郡长Robert Ficano 先生和重庆市副市长吴家农先生也列席了会议。中国汽车工程师学会执行副总裁兼秘书长付于武先生首先介绍了中国汽车工业的近况及发展趋势。上海汽车工业集团副总裁陈因达先生介绍了上汽集团的发展及其国际策略。通用汽车公司的首席经济师Mustafa Mohatarem 博士发表演讲，对国际汽车工业及其中国汽车工业的未来作了深刻的分析。Deloitte & Touche 合伙人，中国服务委员会的Clarence Kwan 先生针对国际投资与企业并购的现状，趋向作了精辟的演讲。前福特汽车公司的法务总管，现Dykema Gissett LLC 律师事务所的主管律师Richard G.Goetz 先生作了中美之间的法律问题作了演讲，对产权保护，投资法规等以实际案例作了分析。
2006 年的中国论坛由三个系列活动组成。中美汽车零部件供应商洽谈会作为第二部分于4月五日下午一点到五点在Troy 举行。由李力副会长主持。来自本地的包括采购，销售代表和各公司高层的160人参加了洽谈会。八家主要来自于重庆市的供应厂家展示了他们的产品、技术和生产能力。
美方代表对此产生了极大的兴趣。在后来安排的自由洽谈时间里很多人积极主动的与中国供应厂家进一步接触，商讨合作的可能。四月五日晚商会举办了主题为“利用收购和合资的方式使企业得到发展”的讲座。由Foley & Lardner LLP 的人士主讲。讲座吸引了50多位中美双方的人士参加。三位主讲人， 即Foley 的合伙人兼底特律办事处主管Steve Hilfinger 先生，合伙人Dalijit Doogal 及来自Foley 波士顿办事处的Linda Ji 律师，就收购、并购及合资的概念与策略，美国政府对收购和合资的政策和法规 以及协议文件等内容作了全面介绍和阐述。
在讲座的最后阶段，三位主讲人还解答了听众的许多问题。
